A once in a lifetime yoga retreat!
Pura Vida is the national saying of Costa Rica, much like Aloha is to Hawaii. Pura Vida means Pure Life and is used as hello, goodbye, and a reply, meaning that all is well. It’s far more than a slogan, it’s a way of life that’s found woven throughout Costa Rican culture. Known as one of the happiest countries on the planet, Costa Rica has served as an example to the world of rich living, done in a simple way.
A strong connection with nature is a pillar of the Costa Rican lifestyle. With resplendent mountains, pristine beaches, clean waters, and lush forests, the extremely biodiverse land and sea beg to be explored and enjoyed. Costa Rica is a global leader in environmental conservation and a large part of its economy comes from international tourists eager to connect to the beauty and energy of this vital paradise.
National Geographic has described The Osa Peninsula as “one of the most biologically intense places on the planet” and “the Amazon of Central America”. Life is abundantly and creatively popping out of every conceivable ounce of soil, water and sky. Cabo Matapalo is located on the Southern Osa Peninsula where the Gulfo Dulce meets the Pacific coast. It is a completely off-grid community with less than 100 year-round residents. It lies on the threshold to some of the most scientifically significant and highly protected conservation land in all of Central America. Cabo Matapalo is one of the last stops on the rocky dirt road that leads to the “crown jewel of Costa Rica”; Corcovado National Park.
This fertile region has become an adventure seeker, surfer, and nature lover’s paradise. Over the last two decades it has also become a hotspot for spiritual seekers, healers, and those seeking healing. The vitality of this place, combined with the friendliness and hospitality of the local people has created a sanctuary community for respectful exchanges to bloom. This very special place holds the space for game-changing personal and collective transformation to occur. Whether it is challenging your fears, releasing inhibition, relaxing into a deeper felt sensuality and pleasure of life, connecting deeper with yourself or loved ones, experiencing new levels of bliss, serenity, and fun, this environment is conducive to such openings.
This retreat is for anyone interested in an adventurous immersive yoga experience in nature- whether you have been practicing for decades or are a wide-eyed, curious beginner.

Your Yoga Retreat Guides
Donna Mahoney of The Yoga Loft:
I began my yoga practice more than 17 years ago. As a busy mother, wife, and career woman, my hour of yoga practices several times a week at my local YMCA was the respite and self-care I deeply craved. It was a magical hour to calm my mind, move my body and connect with something greater than myself. I completely fell in love with yoga and I dreamed of teaching yoga and owning a studio as part of my retirement plan. In 2017, my dreams fast tracked and soon I found myself immersed in yoga training. I trusted the signs the universe sent my way and, in my intuition, and a decade sooner than I thought possible, with great love and dedication, I opened my own studio, The Yoga Loft, in Howard, WI in January 2018. I am RYT 200 and began teaching vinyasa, restorative, and yin and now have over 800 teaching hours that include studio classes, private sessions, community practice, workshops and more.
I continue to grow and learn about mind, body and soul healing. Through the years I have been on a personal self-healing journey and through modalities like sound healing and reiki I was able to deeply heal myself. In turn, I feel part of my purpose is to create a safe space where the community gathers on their own personal healing journey.
With a certificate in Mindfulness and as a Master Reiki Practitioner, I channel healing energy, combined with my empathic abilities, and experience from my own journey and experience as a Yoga Instructor to help others on their journey. I am passionate about creating a sacred space combining spirituality, softness, strength, and loving acceptance, to tap into our innate healing power and allow individuals to transform into a version of themselves that embodies their highest truth. Channeling loving and healing energy, allowing you to be seen, safe and never judged. Intuitively I may incorporate Tibetan or Crystal singing bowls, and oracle card readings to my offerings.
I currently reside in Suamico, WI with my wonderful husband of almost 29 years, Tim. and we have two grown children. I work full time teaching studio classes, private reiki sessions, creating special events, yoga retreats and managing The Yoga Loft. My hobbies include traveling with my husband and family, gardening, connecting with Mother Nature, astrology and adding to my crystal collection.
My heart pulled me to a yoga retreat in Costa Rica in 2019. It was transformational. I felt connected, grounded and at peace in one of the most healing places on earth. Mother Earth will heal us if we slow down and let her lead the way. It is because of the magic that lies in Costa Rica that I feel drawn to go back co-hosting and yoga retreat so that others may feel that same connection and experience the beauty and magic. I look forward to meeting you!
Heidi Heimerl of Mother Earth Yoga:
I am an enthusiastic explorer of the inner and outer world, of science and spirituality. Since 2008, yoga has played a deeply integrative role in my life and helps me to renew and harmonize daily. I’ve had the pleasure to share the practice in some of the most beautiful places on the planet. I attest to yoga’s ability to make a person more receptive to the great elements of nature- within and without. One of my biggest passions is helping people achieve exhilarating peak experiences through yoga in connection with nature. Gaia is a great healer!
I believe some of the best advice is to follow your heart. Since childhood have had an obsession with rainforests and large bodies of water. Much of my adult life has revolved around furthering my environmental and health education, prioritizing long stretches of travel to tropical forests, and chasing enticing waves. I have worked as a land steward, wilderness guide, and marine wildlife guide (where I particularly relished any encounters with whales and dolphins). In my old stomping grounds, Santa Cruz, California, I was trained as a yoga teacher through the internationally acclaimed Mark Stephen’s yoga school. For several seasons I have lived in Cabo Matapalo, Costa Rica, volunteering at the rainforest preserve Osa Conservation, and teaching yoga at Encanta La Vida. What I’ve learned from following my heart is that no matter the path it takes you on, if you are in your heart you always are home. So, why not seek the vastness?
Far from a religion or dogma, a personal and evolving yoga practice based on yogic principles responds to the needs and potential of the individual. It bravely takes you to your growth edge within the present moment. My teaching style draws from many yogic paths including, Hatha, Kundalini, Tantra, Yogoda, and Thai. I love practicing in the silence of a studio, amidst the birdsongs of a forest or meadow, or to music where the asanas give way to a freer expression in an alignment-based dance to “sing the body electric”.
For many years, it has been a dream of mine to lead sustainable yoga retreats into one of the most paradisiacal places I have ever known. For me, returning to Costa Rica is like a pilgrimage to a holy land. I am very excited to offer this opportunity and hope you will join!
